Feng Shui Principles for your Bedroom

The practice of placing and arranging furniture according to certain principles of Feng shui helps create a harmonious and balanced environment in the bedroom. Intended to bring positive energy into the room, creating a personalized atmosphere, here are just a few of the guidelines which you should consider when designing a Feng shui bedroom for yourself.

Orientation

  • The bed should never be positioned directly in line with the door
  • The bed should be placed against a solid wall for support
  • Do not place your bed directly under a beam
  • Do not position your head facing a window.

Furniture Placement

  • Avoid placing furniture that has sharp edges towards the bed
  • Place the bed in a corner so that you can see the door
  • Place a tall chest of drawers or armoire on the side of the bed farthest from the door
  • The bed should be accessible from both sides
  • Place a nightstand a few feet away from each side of the bed for balance and symmetry

Colors

According to Alfonso Leon Feng Shui, the colors you choose for the bedroom should be either warm, neutral or light. Warm colors such as red, orange and yellow are known to be energizing and vibrant, but you should use them sparingly to avoid overstimulation. Neutral colors such as beige, off-white and gray are calming and bring a sense of serenity to the room. Lastly, light colors such as pink, lavender and pale blue are gentle and soothing.

Lighting

Using different types of lighting can create a harmonious atmosphere in your bedroom. You should avoid light fixtures that are too bright or harsh. Having a dimmer switch is ideal, so you can adjust the brightness according to your mood. You should also use warm light bulbs instead of cool-toned ones.

Accessories and Decorations

When it comes to accessories and decorations, less is more. Avoid using clutter or too many items in your bedroom to achieve the most balance. A few plants can bring a pleasant and calming atmosphere. Have a few items that symbolize good luck and positive energy, such as crystals or wind chimes. It is also a good idea to add a few art pieces to the walls for a more personalized touch.

Aromatherapy

The use of essential oils and natural-scented candles can have a calming and grounding effect in the bedroom. Lavender and chamomile are known to be the most effective in inducing relaxation and good sleep. The aromas should be used sparingly, as too much of it can be overpowering and potentially disruptive.

By following these simple Feng Shui guidelines, you can create a cozy space for you to relax and recharge. Remember to keep it airy, clutter-free, and filled with positive energy.
